OUR MISSION: To plan, develop and provide services that enhance the quality of life and facilitate empowerment of the constituents of the Southeast Bronx.

SEBNC’s VISION:  Through our services, the Southeast Bronx becomes a model community for transforming disenfranchised persons into leaders of community service and empowerment.

OUR VALUES: To strengthen families and improve the lives of the residents of the Southeast Bronx through needed community oriented evidenced based programs with an emphasis on serving multi-ethnic populations that are rich in diversity and cultural heritages.  We at SEBNC celebrate the diversity of the Southeast Bronx.  We embrace and invite anyone in need or crisis to seek our services and support.  We believe in the empowerment of immigrant and non-immigrant families.  We will not turn away anyone in need regardless of race, gender, immigration status, age, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We strongly oppose any form of prejudice and “ism”, which include racism, sexism, ageism, classism, colorism, etc. regardless of ethnicity.  In our view, humanity is a beautiful mosaic.

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:  The Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers (SEBNC) is a nonprofit multi-service agency, with strong community roots, that has been serving in the Morrisania section of the Bronx since 1929. We offer programs and services for all ages, including infants, school-aged children, young adults and the developmentally disabled. SEBNC evolved from Council House, a project of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCWJ) that began in the 1930’s. During the early 1940’s the population in the Southeast Bronx shifted dramatically to a predominantly African American constituency. At that juncture, the NCJW invited a group of leaders to assume responsibility for what was then called Forest Neighborhood House. In March of 1971, the Forest Neighborhood House Board of Directors reorganized and reincorporated as Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers, Inc. As a member of the United Neighborhood Houses (UNH), SEBNC is guided by the settlement house model of community development and involvement.  Since its inception 88 years ago, the Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers has been offering high quality academic, social, recreational and cultural education services to families, youth, and others of the Bronx. Each year we serve more than 1,500 New York City residents through a variety of day treatment, educational, afterschool, recreational, and social programs.

SERVICES & ACTIVITIES Early Childhood Education provides high quality child care services to 400 children 2 to 4 years old at three Bronx locations. We have successfully operated our centers for more than 60 years, providing social, recreational and educationally centered activities to children, along with support services and resources to families. Developmental Disabilities Services offer an array of programs which provide a combination of respite, residential, case management and habilitation services to developmentally disabled adults and children. SEBNC's services are designed to minimize deficits in adaptive behavior for our consumers' maximum participation in programmed activities at a site other than their residence. Core services include daily meals, recreation, clinical services and round trip transportation.  SEBNC's Youth Division provides services to children and youth, ages 5 thru 21 years of age in after-school activities such as: career and development training, computer literacy, reading enrichment, sports and recreation, music appreciation, science and technology, volunteer and internship opportunities, summer youth employment, team sports, health and nutrition, conservation education, job placement and readiness, and social services. SEBNC is also culturally sensitive to the issues of LGBTQ adolescents.  SEBNC has a Night Center with year round exercise and fitness, sports and social activities for children and adults 7 days a week. There is no admission fee to join the center or to utilize our exercise equipment to get in shape. Other activities include, boys and girl basketball, Zumba, Track, and intramural competitions. SEBNC has Summer Camp with a more than 20 years of service that provides free and low cost summer camp programming to children ages 5 thru 13 years of age.
